Dr. Sameer Jejurikar, Improving Safety for the Brazilian Butt Lift
Dr. Sameer Jejurikar is a well-known leading plastic surgeon located in Dallas, Texas. Currently working for the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute, Dr. Jejuriker received his degree from the University of Michigan and has been practicing for over 20 years.
Dr. Jejurikar joined the Multisociety Gluteal Fat Grafting Task Force in 2018. The task force is comprised of board certified plastic surgeons who work in collaboration with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons to improve safety procedures for the wildly popular plastic surgery procedure known as the Brazilian Butt Lift. The Brazilian Butt Lift is a surgical procedure in which fat is removed from undesirable parts of the body and injected into the gluteal muscles, forming a firm buttock. Demand for the procedure in recent years has raised concerns about the overall safety of the procedure. Therefore, the task force performs studies to determine the best access points for fat injection, along with the ideal angles and planes for the injection.
The task force may have personal significance to Dr. Jejurikar. In late 2016, Dr. Jejurikar performed the famed Brazilian Butt Lift surgery on a former nurse named Rolanda Hutton. According to Hutton, Dr. Jejurikar injected too much fat into her gluteal muscles, placing irregular pressure on her spine and other vital organs. She began to experience weakness soon after the procedure and, according to Hutton, alerted Dr. Jejurikar who failed to take proper steps to rectifying the issue in time. Therefore, Hutton lost all feeling in her legs and several of her vital organs shut down. Dr. Jejurikar denies the allegations and awaits a formal court hearing to present evidence in his defense.
