The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund is an establishment that was inspired by the unfortunate circumstances that led two journalists, Lacey and Larkin, initiating their own Fund aimed at succoring the Hispanic community. This media establishment started out during the early 70’s, and Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey encountered quite a number legal confrontations during their time. However, 2007 marks the organizations’ worst legal skirmish yet as they were both falsely accused, arrested, and imprisoned for supposedly breaching the grand jury secrecy law. Jim and Michael were however pronounced innocent by the US circuit of appeals in 2012 due to lack of a feasible explanation for the arrest.

The charges against them were later dropped, and Lacey and Larkin proceeded to sue their prosecutors for infringing their First Amendments rights and abuse of power. The Maricopa County settled this case and Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey received $ 3.75 million settlement money.

Larkin and Lacey put all the settlement money into The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund. This is an establishment that subsidizes groups that promote migrant, human, and civil rights in addition to boosting freedom of speech and public action.

The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund establishment mainly provides college scholarships to suitable Mexican immigrants. The organization recognizes the struggle that comes with trying to attain a certain level of education for young immigrants in Arizona as the law makes it beyond the bounds of possibilities for these immigrants to further their education.

The CLU immigrants’ rights project is one other organization advocating for civil, human, and immigrant rights. The organization also mainly focuses on civil and human rights of the immigrants through engaging in outreach, litigation, and advocacy programs.

Mike and Jim are the head executive members in this foundation and aim at attaining equal justice for immigrants. They manage to do so by opposing any legality of laws that impede immigrants from gaining access to justice in the court of law. The main focus of the group is to secure human right for immigrants.

Contesting for civil, human, and immigrants rights can prove to be rather difficult and requires several non-profit organizations working together. The process also requires a great level financial aid to achieve the objectives. Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have contributed significantly to these sort of groups that fight the rights of immigrants.

Lacey and Larkin- advocates for civil, human and migrant rights

Human rights are an important aspect of the human life. Human life is sacred and deserves protection from any acts of disrespect or acts that may degrade the dignity of human life. In the world we live in injustices happen very often. These injustices amount to violations of human or civil rights of people. Human rights and civil rights are the principles that set the stage on human beings to interaction.

Violation of human rights of even a single person is an act that deserves to be condemned. Every human being deserves fairness and equity. No human being is special to be accorded different treatment. If people observe human rights as per the law, then the world would be a better place. Most conflicts that are witnessed today result from violation of the human rights whose guide should be the cornerstone for fairness and equity to the world.

The fight against human rights violations is led by none other than the governments. This is true according to the United Nations charter on human rights. Governments have the power and mandate to ensure that acts of human rights violation are not allowed to happen at whatever cost. Read more: Michael Lacey | Twitter and Michael Lacey | Facebook

It is for this reason that many democratic societies go to elections to pick the leadership that they would like to represent them. However, there is one danger in leaving the fight for human rights protection to governments.

Governments all over the world one are the number one suspects of human right violations. Governments tend to use their power to discriminate the same people who rely on them for protection. Now that’s a tragedy. So what does the society do to check that the governments are not allowed to exercise absolute powers that deny human beings their rights?

Human rights groups, civil rights groups, and migrant’s rights groups are the solution to government’s excesses. These organizations are supposed to oversee the operations of the governments to ensure that they do not pass laws that will roll back the gains made through implementation of human rights. Human rights groups all over the world are many, and their aim is the same thing; to see that the rights of people are not violated and that people are not discriminated based on differences such as nationality, color, or citizen status.

A look deeper into the issues of citizenship shows that this is the most notorious areas that human rights violation happen.

People under the pretense of illegal immigration are taking advantage of immigrants by taking them through unfair working conditions, unfair education regulations and denying them some basic rights of a human such as employment, that is supposed to create a means of livelihood.

Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund

In the state of Arizona, there is one organization that has been instrumental in the fight against injustices. Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund was established with the intent of supporting rights groups in Arizona financially.

The fund group was created by journalists Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. The group was started with $3.75 million.

This was money awarded to Lacey and Larkin by the courts of appeals. They had appealed against discrimination of their rights by the Sheriff of Maricopa County Joe Arpaio.

How The Frontera Fund Defends The Rights Of People In Arizona

Some of the big issues in the United States involve civil and human rights, including the rights of migrants who live in work in the nation.

Many of these people end up in Arizona and need help defending their rights. One of the organizations that lend this help to people who rights have been violated is the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund.

This fund was created in the aftermath of two journalists having their own rights violated by former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The result of this was a settlement of $3.75 million being awarded to them which. They used this settlement to establish the Frontera Fund in order to help others.

It was on October 18, 2007, that Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin were arrested by deputies working for Sheriff Joe Arpaio. He was looking for their notes regarding himself and grand jury proceedings. The arrest was deemed illegal and after winding through the appeals process they won their settlement against the county.

The Frontera Fund is now used to defend the rights of others in the state of Arizona, especially migrant rights. They also support the right to free speech as well as the right to engage in civics.

The Frontera Fund financially supports a broad range of other nonprofit organizations in Arizona. Among these is the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. Read more; Michael Lacey | LinkedIn and Michael Lacey | Facebook

This project defends the rights of those who are housed in Department of Homeland Security detention centers. It offers free legal services to these people who are usually poor and completely unable to afford an attorney on their own.

Other groups that the Frontera Fund supports include the Arizona DREAM Act Coalition, the Arizona Justice Project, The Colibri Center for Human Rights, and Justice that Works. Lacey and Larkin are also supporters of the Arizona branch of the American Civil Liberties Union.

The website for the Frontera Fund includes news about various issues affecting the human, civil, and migrant rights of people living in Arizona. Among these is a Trump Watch which keeps track of what Donald Trump is doing as president of the United States and how those actions affect people in Arizona and around the nation.

The most recent articles discuss DREAMers who are young people who were brought to the United States when they were young. The DREAM act, signed by President Obama, had supported these people’s righ to the stay in the US as long as they were working or going to school. Trump overturned this law and people are now awaiting what Congress will do about that.
