Lacey and Larkin- advocates for civil, human and migrant rights

Human rights are an important aspect of the human life. Human life is sacred and deserves protection from any acts of disrespect or acts that may degrade the dignity of human life. In the world we live in injustices happen very often. These injustices amount to violations of human or civil rights of people. Human rights and civil rights are the principles that set the stage on human beings to interaction.

Violation of human rights of even a single person is an act that deserves to be condemned. Every human being deserves fairness and equity. No human being is special to be accorded different treatment. If people observe human rights as per the law, then the world would be a better place. Most conflicts that are witnessed today result from violation of the human rights whose guide should be the cornerstone for fairness and equity to the world.

The fight against human rights violations is led by none other than the governments. This is true according to the United Nations charter on human rights. Governments have the power and mandate to ensure that acts of human rights violation are not allowed to happen at whatever cost. Read more: Michael Lacey | Twitter and Michael Lacey | Facebook

It is for this reason that many democratic societies go to elections to pick the leadership that they would like to represent them. However, there is one danger in leaving the fight for human rights protection to governments.

Governments all over the world one are the number one suspects of human right violations. Governments tend to use their power to discriminate the same people who rely on them for protection. Now that’s a tragedy. So what does the society do to check that the governments are not allowed to exercise absolute powers that deny human beings their rights?

Human rights groups, civil rights groups, and migrant’s rights groups are the solution to government’s excesses. These organizations are supposed to oversee the operations of the governments to ensure that they do not pass laws that will roll back the gains made through implementation of human rights. Human rights groups all over the world are many, and their aim is the same thing; to see that the rights of people are not violated and that people are not discriminated based on differences such as nationality, color, or citizen status.

A look deeper into the issues of citizenship shows that this is the most notorious areas that human rights violation happen.

People under the pretense of illegal immigration are taking advantage of immigrants by taking them through unfair working conditions, unfair education regulations and denying them some basic rights of a human such as employment, that is supposed to create a means of livelihood.

Jeremy Goldstein’s 3 Reasons to Offer Knockout Options

Many companies have taken stock options away from their employees. The thought was that offering the option was costing too much money, not benefiting the company at all. That is not necessarily true. Jeremy Goldstein offers a few suggestions to show why offering stock option could be better than increasing pay or insurance coverage.

  • Stock options are easy to understand
  • An option’s value only increases if the share value of a corporation increases, giving employees incentive to put the company’s needs first.
  • Due to some existing IRS rules, the tax burden could be lighter for a company to supply staff members with options.

Jeremy Goldstein explains that a “knockout” option benefits both sides. It keeps a time limit but will expire if the share value drops too low. Non-employee shareholders are also protected from overhang. The knockout option looks better to shareholders because executive compensations are lower, resulting in a more accurate yearly earnings report.

Jeremy Goldstien has been a business lawyer for 15 years. His firm, Jeremy L. Goldstein & Associates LLC, is based in New York. Before starting his own firm he was a partner at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.

Currently Jeremy Goldstein sits on the board of a non-profit called Fountain House to aid those mentally ill. He has been a part of several large corporate transactions which include SBC Communications Inc./AT&T Wireless Services, Phillips Petroleum Compnay/Conoco Inc., and Duke Energy/Progress Energy, to name a few. He speaks and writes often often about corporate governance and executive compensation issues in several periodicals.
